Residence: Portland

Portland, Oregon 2018

This modern infill residence was designed on a narrow urban lot in a dense neighborhood of Portland Foursquares and bungalows. The historic context was reflected with thoughtful attention to proportion, scale, and material texturing, but the form and detailing are unmistakably modern. The outdoor spaces, spatial arrangements, and fenestration were all carefully modulated to connect inside to outside and bring abundant natural light into the interior, while still maintaining mutual privacy from the adjacent neighbors.
